Using Ancestry DNA matches to identify Mary's Parents

Mary wrote her story in my last blog and this is a follow on from that story. I took Mary's estimated 3rd cousin match and built a whole family tree for Mary and identified her biological parents. At that time I had identified someone who I thought would be her half brother but it turned out was her full brother.

Since then Mary and her brother have been processing the information. They speak or text frequently and Mary has been to her niece's wedding, where she met other family members, and more importantly, her mother!!

DNA confirmed her Mother

Her mother has successfully blocked out anything to do with this period of her history and has had to deal with her own traumas. Her family have supported her. She finally agreed to do a DNA test about 8 weeks ago. Mary wants to be, and deserves to be, acknowledged. This test has now fully proved, without a doubt, that she was Mary's mother!

Meeting Up with Mary

Last weekend my husband and I travelled to see Mary, her husband and also their friends. {Mary had recommended me to her friend who also did not know his biological father. I identified his father too! Each case has its fair share of twists and turns and his case was no exception.)

It was so lovely to actually meet the people who I had been communicating with for months but had never met. We were having such a good night that we forgot to take photos!! But we took a photo when we met for breakfast the next day.
